Prime Minister Narendra Modi long before the historic elections of 2014 during a visit to this ancient city called Varanasi as the cradle of India’s glorious culture, a confluence of tradition, history, culture and harmony. As his Lok Sabha constituency from where voters elected him with a record margin, Varanasi is seeing a transformation never envisioned before. All efforts are on to make this city a World Heritage site, a promise Prime Minister Modi made when he filed his nomination in April of 2014. The focus is on state of the art tourism and infrastructure facilities including a major thrust towards cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
